Jones Wins on Lake Okeechobee

Mike Jones of Canal Point, Florida won his second American Bass Anglers Ram Truck Open Series Florida South tournament, held February 18th on Lake Okeechobee.

Running out of Scott Driver Park in Okeechobee, Florida, Mike caught five bass weighing 20.80 pounds. For the Boater division victory, Jones took home a check for $6,000 for his win.

2017 Again Offers a $5,000 Guaranteed First Place

Athens, AL. The 2017 Ram Open Series tournaments are coming to Florida in early January for both central and south Florida. The Series first national qualifying event will be held on lake Okeechobee January 7, 2017 out of Scott Driver Park. 

Last season, Jett Dexter of Arcadia, FL won the opener at Lake Okeechobee with a 23.97-pound limit and took home  $5225. Chad Foster of Saint Cloud, FL took second with 19.60 pounds and Larry Wright of Okeechobee, FL took third with 18.79. David Rushing of Orlando, FL had the biggest bass of 7.87. 

James Watkins of Lakeland, FL won the first 2016 event in Florida Central on Lake Toho on January 16 with a 21.64-pound limit and took home $6350. Joe Ventrello of Apopka, FL came in second with 20.13 pounds and Dan Smith of Webster, FL won third with 19.52 

With $5,000 guaranteed first place, anglers know they must fish tournaments with a huge field and pay higher entry fees to take home this kind of payday. 

Jett Dexter the Okeechobee event winner said “This is the best payback that I’ve ever seen on this lake”. The 2017 season of the Ram Open Series offers the same $5,000 first place guarantee.

Yeatts Wins Second Okeechobee Stop

Steven Yeatts of Palm Springs, FL won the Florida South division Ram Truck Open Series event at Lake Okeechobee on April 2, 2016. Yeatts weighed in a 26.39 pound limit to win $5000. “We went down to North Shore this morning and I caught one six pounder down there. I made the decision to check the outside grass line and it wasn’t bad, so I started pitching a jig. I had a three pounder come off, so I knew they were there. Then, I just kept working my way down and the fish just got bigger and bigger. Most of the fish were around pencil reeds.

Jones Takes Co-angler Victory at Okeechobee

Bryan Jones of Zephyrhills, FL was the co-angler champion of the Florida South Ram Truck Open Series opener held on February 20, 2016 at Lake Okeechobee. His 12.72 pound limit that included the 6.57 co-angler Big bass was worth a total of $2135. “We were up here on the north end. All of my fish came on a “Senko” type worm. I was just throwing it into hydrilla and working it really slow. We tried to flip for a little bit, but the flipping bite just wasn’t on today. I caught my Big Bass around 11:30. It was a really good day,” said Jones.

David Sullivan of Johnston, SC finished in second place on the co-angler side with 12.05 pounds to win $614. “I lost one about four and a half pounds that I saw jump off. I was throwing a swimbait right behind my boater all day,” said Sullivan.

The third place spot went to Ernie Johnson of Okeechobee, FL. Johnson had 10.77 pounds worth $410. “We were over on the west side and caught them all on a weightless Fluke,” said Johnson.

Dexter Wins Florida South Opener at Lake Okeechobee

Jett Dexter of Arcadia, FL won the Florida South Division Ram Truck Open Series opener at Lake Okeechobee on February 20, 2016. Dexter brought in a 23.97 pound limit of Okeechobee bass to take home $5225. “I was fishing on the north end of the lake and I caught them all on a swimbait. I caught three this morning and I didn’t finish my limit until 12:30. This is the best payback that I’ve ever seen on this lake,” said Dexter.

Second place on the boater side went to Chad Foster of Saint Cloud, FL with 19.60 pounds. Foster earned $1614 for his efforts. “I was on the north end and caught my fish on an Outkast swim jig. I’m excited about today and I’m excited about the Ray Scott Championship coming up. I’ve been looking forward to Lake Hartwell,” said Foster.

Larry Wright of Okeechobee, FL finished in the third place spot with 18.79 pounds to win $1076. “North end of the lake and caught them on a Carolina rig. I stayed in the same area all day,” said Wright.
