Take it from an North Carolina Angler - Michael Stephens of Gastonia, NC won the North Carolina division Ram Truck Open Series opener at Lake Norman on February 20, 2016 and $5,750 paycheck. 

“The payout for this event is awesome and has really changed the game for ABA events in the North Carolina. It’s so nice to fish an event and have a chance to win a big paycheck,” said Stephens.

South Carolina Division Heads To Lake Russell

ATHENS, Ala. – The South Carolina Division will hold its fourth tournament on Lake Russell on 5/20/2017.

The competitors will launch from Calhoun Falls State Park. Anglers will begin fishing at 6:00 am or safe light until 2:00 pm. Registration will be at the ABA stage trailer located at Calhoun Falls State park on Friday 5/19/2017. To register for this tournament, see

Taylor Wins on Lake Murray

Brock Taylor the Pendleton, South Carolina won the American Bass Anglers Ram Truck Open Series South Carolina division tournament held February 18th on Lake Murray.

Running out of Dreher Island State Park near Prosperity South Carolina, Brock caught five bass weighing 25.94 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 6.80 pound kicker. For the Boater division victory, Taylor took home a check for $5,000.

Athens, AL. The 2017 Ram Open Series is coming to South Carolina with a qualifying event being held on lake Keowee January 28, 2017 out of South Cover County Park.  (register now)

Last season, Randy Childers of Anderson, SC won the South Carolina Division Ram Truck Open Series opener at Lake Keowee on March 5, 2016. Childers brought in a 20.39 pound bag of Keowee bass, which contained the 9.67 pound boater Big Bass, to win a total of $5390.. 

“I ran about 6-7 minutes up the lake and started fishing some rock. On about my fourth cast, I caught my Big Bass on a jig in around two feet of water. After catching that fish, I’m going to stay on Keowee for the rest of the year, throwing that same jig,” laughed Childers.

Botts Focuses on Points to Win on Lake Russell

Jonathan Botts of Abbeville, SC won the South Carolina division Ram Truck Open Series event at Lake Russell on April 16, 2016. Botts brought in an 18.08 pound limit, which included the 5.73 pound boater Big Bass, to win $5000 for first place and $480 from the Big Bass Pot. He also used an Abu Garcia reel to catch his Big Bass and was awarded a new Abu Garcia Revo XS reel valued at $159.99 through the Abu Garcia Revo Big Bass Bonus program. “I started in Rocky River and sat on one spot for about two hours. My second fish was my big one this morning. It jumped over my topwater bait several times. I knew there was a good one there, so I just waited it out. I ended up catching the Big Bass on a shakey head in that area. Clay points are where my fish were coming from. Most all of the points had blue back herring on them, but only some points had fish. They were really shallow,” said Botts.

Sammy Freeman of Columbia, SC was the winner of a $100 Best Western Travel Card at the March 5, 2016 Ram Truck Open Series event at the Lake Keowee. Freeman lodged at the host Best Western hotel during the event and he was entered into the Best Western Travel Card drawing.  There is a drawing for a $100 Best Western travel card at every Ram Truck Open Series event that has a Best Western host hotel. Anglers must bring their Best Western hotel receipts to registration to enter the drawing.

Glouse Uses Spinnerbait to Win at Keowee

Gerald Glouse of Easley, SC was the co-angler champion of the Ram Truck Open Series event held on March 5, 2016 at Lake Keowee. Glouse’s 8.53 pound limit included the 4.73 pound co-angler Big Bass. He won a total of $1355 for his efforts. “I caught everything on a spinnerbait. I really struggled today and didn’t catch but a few fish,” said Glouse.

Don Goodfellow of Simpsonville, SC finished in second place on the co-angler side with 7.61 pounds to win $426. “We were fishing up in Camp Creek. I caught four fish today on a Shakey Head with a green pumpkin plastic bait in less than 10 feet of water. Nothing particularly magical, a couple came off of brush and one came off of a dock,” said Goodfellow.

Tyler Thompson of Anderson, SC brought in 7.54 pounds to finish in third place and win $284. “I caught my fish on a floating worm. My boater was looking for bedding fish and I was just skipping the worm under docks,” said Thompson.

Childers Takes South Carolina Opener

He also won a new pair of Maui Jim sunglasses for wearing his current pair of Maui Jim “I ran about 6-7 minutes up the lake and started fishing some rock. After catching that fish, I’m going to stay on Keowee for the rest of the year, throwing that same jig,” laughed Childers.

Tracy Watkins of Williamston, SC finished in second place with 19.00 pounds to win $1030. “I was on good quality fish today, didn’t lose any fish, and had a good net man. I even had one get wrapped around a tree. Everything went right. Things just went better for Randy (Childers),” said Watkins.

Michael Maloy of Piedmont, SC finished in third place with 16.53 pounds winning $687. “I fished mid-lake up, just looking for staging fish that were moving up shallow to spawn. I mainly targeted ditches and feeder creeks,” said Maloy.
