"My first fish came on an old 50 cent "yard sale" Mann's spinnerbait. The next fish was on a lizard. The rest of the day, we spent cranking and did pretty well on a crankbait," said Osborn.

Eldred B. Lewis of Tuscaloosa, AL finished in second place on the co-angler side with 8.71 pounds to win $399. "I didn't catch my fish until around 11:00. I was using a speed worm and a Shakey Head bait on the edge of the grass. It was fun," said Lewis.

Eric Shamburger of Leesburg, GA brought in 8.66 pounds, which included the 4.80 pound co-angler Big Bass, to finish in third place and win $401. "I caught them on the river, flipping a Sweet Beaver. It was about 11:30 when I caught my Big Bass," said Shamburger.

Messer Takes Home Co-angler Trophy at Alabama South Event

Clay Messer of Auburn, AL was the co-angler champion of the Ram Truck Open Series event held on February 6, 2016 at Lake Mitchell. Messer’s 8.59 pound limit was worth $1110. “We fished the south end and caught them on a crankbait. I was just banging wood, rocks, and deep points. Luckily, my boater was around some fish. I lost a couple, but I was able to put three in the boat,” said Messer.

Steve Miles of Clanton, AL finished in second place on the co-angler side with 7.47 pounds to win $398. “I lost some fish today. Most of my fish were on a Shakey Head. We pretty much fished mid-lake to the ramp. My boater was fantastic and I really appreciate it,” said Miles.

Two of my keepers were on a Rat-L-Trap, ripping it through some grass. My other keeper came on a Strikezone Lures jig off of a bluff wall,” said Perkins.

Richard C. Hudson of Ramer, AL brought in the 3.66 pound Co-angler Big Bass of the day to win $130 from the Big Bass Pot. “I was fishing on the lower end and I caught the Big Bass on a swimbait around 8:30 this morning,” said Hudson.

Mark McCaig Takes Home $5000 at Lake Mitchell

Mark McCaig of Oxford, AL won the Alabama South Division Ram Truck Open Series opener at Lake Mitchell on February 6, 2015. McCaig brought in a 19.05 pound limit of Lake Mitchell bass to win $5000 in his first American Bass Anglers event of the year. He used a Big Bite Fighting Frog and a crankbait to secure is win. “This morning, I caught two of my fish in the river, out on some rocky stuff in the current. Then, I went a long time without a bite. I caught another good one about 11:00. At 2:45, I had four fish and I stopped at another spot where I caught a four pounder on a crankbait. After that, I went around the corner, flipped a little grass mat, caught another four pound, and came to the weigh in. My best fish came after 3:00, so I’m glad I was in the last flight,” said McCaig.

Chris Minor of Clanton, AL finished in second place with 17.56 pounds and brought in the 4.20 pound Big Bass earning $1279 for second place and $570 from the Big Bass Pot. Minor was swimming a jig and flipping for his second place catch. “I started out spot fishing to get a limit and go look for largemouth. I ended up weighing in one of the spots. That’s what killed me,” said Minor.

Third place in the Alabama South event went to Travis Northey of Troy, AL with 17.28 pounds winning $853. “I was down south and caught every one of them on a jig. I did like the rest of these boys and caught a limit of spots before looking for largemouth. I just never caught a largemouth,” said Northey.
