Carroll Wins Tough One on Kentucky Lake
David B. Carroll of Manitou, KY won the Kentucky division Ram Truck Open Series event at Kentucky Lake on May 7, 2016. Carroll caught an 18.18 pound bag of Kentucky Lake bass to win $5000. “I caught my fish dragging a peanut butter and jelly colored football jig with a green pumpkin trailer. I targeted secondary points and little breaks off of the bank. My bigger fish were caught first thing in the morning and I was able to cull a few times. The day got off to a good start and I just tried to keep it going. Also, I wanted to thank Next Level Tournament Fishing by David Gnewikow. Ever since I took his class, I been able to catch more fish and know how to have the proper mental attitude it takes to win at the next level,” said Carroll.
Brent Anderson of Kingston Springs, TN finished in second place with 15.82 pounds to win $1234. “I was flipping a Dirty Sanchez colored Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver about 80 miles from here in about a foot of water. It was really slow today and I caught about one fish per hour,” said Anderson.
Billy T. Schroeder of Paducah, KY finished in third place with 14.09 pounds winning $823. “I used a green pumpkin jig with a Zoom trailer. I caught my biggest fish of the day in about 21-22 feet of water. She had not spawned yet, so there are crazy fishing conditions out there. I was able to catch fish all day and was able to cull a few times,” said Schroeder.
Joey Schmidt of Hickory, KY caught the 6.51 Boater Big Bass of the day to win $450 from the Big Bass Pot. Schmidt used an Abu Garcia reel to catch his Big Bass and was awarded a new Abu Garcia Revo SX reel valued at $159.99 through the Abu Garcia Revo Big Bass Bonus program. “I caught my big bass using a shaky head with a green pumpkin candy trick worm with a 3/16 ounce Picasso football shaky head. I was using an Abu Garcia Reel when I caught this fish,” said Schmidt.
