O’Bryant Wins on Lake Barkley

Tom O’Bryant of Cedar Grove, Tennessee won the American Bass Anglers Ram Truck Open Series Kentucky Division running out of Kuttawa/Lyon County Boat Ramp in Kuttawa, KY on June 18, 2016.

Tom caught five bass weighing 21.33 pounds. O’Bryant took home $5,000 for first place and also pocketed $380 for winning the Boater Big Fish weighing 5.79. “I actually caught all of my fish shallow flipping a jig with a Rage Crawl on it. I was in 3-10 feet of water. It was a great day, I caught about 40 keepers all day long,” said O’Bryant.

In second for the Boaters, David Gnewikow of Mount Juliet, Tennessee landed a five bass limit weighing 20.32 pounds with a 5.55 pound kicker. He collected $1,005 for his effort. “I caught my fish on a ¾ ounce Green Pumpkin Strike King Jig with an Okeechobee Crawl Rage Tail and a Strike King 6XD Crank Bait. I fished a lot of different depths today with most of my fish coming from 12-15 feet of water. I was targeting ledges,” said Gnewikow.

Craig Hipshire of Benton, Kentucky took third for the Boaters with five bass weighing 19.21 pounds. He anchored his catch with a 5.19 pound kicker to earn $670. “I went over to Kentucky first thing this morning and I had all my fish caught by 8. I caught all my fish throwing Strike King XD8 crank bait in 12-15 feet of water,” said Hipshire.

Finishing fourth was Don Beckly Jr of Paducah, Kentucky. He landed a five bass limit weighing 17.78 pounds including a 5.22 pound kicker.

Travis Cockburn of Johnson City, Illinois rounded out the top five Boaters with five bass weighing 17.48 pounds topped by a 4.86 pound kicker.

In the Co-Angler division, Justin English of Owensboro, Kentucky won with three bass weighing 13.08 pounds. He sealed his victory with a 6.24 pound kicker to pocket a check for $1,500 and $185 for the Co-Angler Big Fish.

“I caught my fish using a BAJA Jig. The skirt color is one that I make with a little green pumpkin and some purple in it. I caught my fish in about 15-20 feet of water. I caught fish pretty much all day and was able to cull a few times,” English said.

Taking second for the Co-Anglers, Josh Hoy of Woodland, Illinois brought in a three-bass limit weighing 12.00 pounds including a 4.49 pound kicker. He collected $502 for the effort. “My boater today targeted ledges in about 20-25 feet of water. I was throwing a ¾ ounce water melon jig,” Hoy stated.

William Walsh of Bon Aqua, Tennessee placed third among the Co-Anglers with three bass weighing 11.33 pounds anchoring his catch with a 5.00 pound kicker to earn $335. “It was a tough day, but I managed to catch some fish flipping a green pumpkin jig and on a spinner bait,” said Walsh.

In fourth place among the Co-Anglers, Nathan Smith of Clarksville, Tennessee brought in three bass weighing 10.80 pounds including a 5.19 pound kicker.

Ethan Wheeler of Mayfield, Kentucky finished in fifth place with three bass weighing 10.44 pounds.
