Beck Wins Big on Old Hickory

Mickey Beck of Lebanon, Tennessee won the American Bass Anglers Ram Truck Open Series on Old Hickory. Running out of Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville, TN, Beck caught five bass weighing 19.62 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 4.55 pound kicker. Beck took home $5,000 for his efforts today as well as a ton of contingency money including: $7,000 for Triton Gold, $1,000 for Mercury Marine, $500 for TH Marine through their Atlas Awards Program, $100 from Power Poles Captains Cash, and a new pair of Maui Jim's bringing his total earnings to over $12,000.

“I started this morning throwing a spook in about 6 inches of water and by the end of the day I was in about 30 foot of water. I caught my fish using a lot of different baits ranging from buzz baits, spooks, topwater baits, and flipping a jig. My bigger fish came on a Green Pumpkin with a Paca Chunk Crawl Football Jig. I caught them using an ABU Garcia reel on my J Blackwood Custom Rods,” Beck said.

In second for the Boaters was Tom O’Bryant of Cedar Grove, Tennessee. He landed a five-bass tournament limit weighing 14.38 pounds with a 4.44-pound kicker taking home $1,307 for his effort. “I actually caught all of my fish shallow flipping a jig with a Rage Crawl on it. I was flipping docks, wood, and anything I could find to flip a jig,” O’Bryant said.

Mark Horton of Mt Juliet, Tennessee took third for the Boaters with five bass weighing 13.85 pounds. He anchored his catch with a 4.18-pound kicker to earn $871. “I caught all of my fish today using a Green Pumpkin jig flipping and pitching in about 2 foot of water. I caught my fish early and then it slacked up a bit until lunch. It was pretty tough after lunch. The fish were where I thought they would be,’ Horton said.

Finishing fourth was Daniel Johnson of Lebanon, Tennessee. He landed a five-bass limit weighing 13.18 pounds including a 4.56-pound kicker.

Brian Choate of Burns, Tennessee rounded out the top five Boaters with five bass weighing 13.10 pounds topped by a 4.31-pound kicker.

The biggest bass for the Boaters was caught by Adam Wagner of Cookeville, TN and Billy Hinson of Mt Juliet, Tennessee. Both weighed in at 4.81 pounds and both anglers took home $285 for their effort.

On the Co-Angler side, Chris Seese of Loudon, Tennessee won with three bass weighing 11.63 pounds. He sealed his victory with a 4.74-pound kicker to pocket a check for $1,215.

“I caught all of my fish today using a Black and Blue Jig. It didn’t matter what I had on the jig, as long as it was black and blue. I had my limit before 10:30 am, after that I didn’t get another bite. I was able to cull a few times today to get to the weight I had,” Seese said.

Taking second for the Co-Anglers, Brennon Binkley of Franklin, Tennessee. He brought in three-bass weighing 10.45 pounds with a 5.00-pound kicker. He collected $425 for his effort. Binkley also took home $150 for his 5.00 pound kicker and a new ABU Garcia Revo XS valued at $160 for catching the big bass of the tournament. “I caught everything today on a Plum 10 inch worm with an Abu Garcia reel. By boater was targeting ledges, so I caught my fish in deeper water today. It was a tough day today, I didn’t get to cull any I just landed the right three fish,” states Binkley.

Dianna Montgomery placed third among the Co-Anglers with three bass weighing 8.31 pounds. She anchored her catch with a 3.93-pound kicker to earn $283. “I caught all of my fish today dragging a Green Pumpkin with blue flake Biffle Bug. I was throwing the Biffle Bug at ledges all day and just letting it drop off the edge. It was a grind all day, the bites were spaced out,” said Montgomery.

In fourth place among the Co-Anglers, Kyle Gaylon of Bethpage, Tennessee brought in three bass weighing 8.08 pounds including a 3.83-pound kicker.

Billy Ray Boyd III finished in fifth place with three bass at 6.57 pounds.
