Kilgore Takes Home Victory on Weiss 

Andy Kilgore of Kingston, Georgia won the American Bass Anglers Ram Truck Open Series on Lake Weiss. Running out of Little River Marina in Centre, Alabama, Kilgore caught five bass weighing 17.80 pounds. “I threw a 6 XD crankbait on rocks most of the day to catch my fish. It was a grind, I caught one fish early in the morning and my other fish came after 1” stated Kilgore. Kilgore took home $5,000 for his efforts today as well as a $7,000 for Triton Gold, and $1,000 for Mercury Marine.

In second for the Boaters was Shane Ellis of Boaz, Alabama. He landed a five-bass tournament limit weighing 17.27 pounds. “I caught my first four fish shallow using a spinner bait. I caught my bigger fishing using a DT 10 crankbait. I caught my smaller fish that morning and caught my bigger fish late in the day. I caught about ten fish all day so it was a decent day” said Ellis. He pocketed a check for $1,445 for his efforts.

Carl Hayes of Sharpsburg, Georgia took third for the Boaters with five bass weighing 17.03 pounds to earn $963. “I caught my fish shallow on topwater and also flipping wood using soft plastics. I caught a limit early and was able to cull a few times to get my final weight” stated Hayes.

Finishing fourth was Trey O’Daniel of Fort Payne, Alabama. He landed a five-bass limit for 16.25 pounds including a 4.85-pound kicker. 

Brian Horton of Fort Payne, Alabama rounded out the top five Boaters with five bass weighing 16.03 pounds.

The biggest bass for the Boaters was caught by Chris Howell of Anniston, Alabama weighing in at 6.53 pounds. Chris took home $650 for his effort. 

On the Co-Angler side, Brian Smith of Gadsden, Alabama won with three bass weighing 11.84 pounds. He sealed his victory with a 4.81-pound kicker. “We were fishing shallow pretty much kicking up mud all day hitting docks. I used red soft plastics to catch my fish, this is what I stuck with all day. I caught fish all day so it was a good day” said Smith. Brian pocketed a check for $1,500 for first place and an additional $220 for Big Bass. 

Taking second for the Co-Anglers was Derek Lester of Hiram, Georgia. He brought in three-bass weighing 7.91 pounds with a 3.68-pound kicker. “I used a summer crawl color jig to catch my fish. We were fishing shallow on the docks. I caught my fish right before the storm hit and I was able to cull once” Lester said. He collected $502 for his effort.

Johnathan Adams placed third among the Co-Anglers with three bass weighing 7.72 pounds. “I caught my fish throwing a 5XD crankbait all day” said Adams. He earned $335 for his efforts.

In fourth place among the Co-Anglers, Johnathan Barksdale of Southside, Alabama brought in three bass weighing 6.51 pounds. 

Matt O’Connell of Brooks, Georgia finished in fifth place with three bass at 6.46 pounds.

Slated for August 13, 2016, the next divisional tournament will be held on Neely Henry out of Coosa Landing in Gadsden, Alabama. At the end of the season, the best anglers from across the nation advance the 2017 Ray Scott Championship, slated for Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, TN in April of 2017.
